No coronavirus risk from chicken consumption

Vijayawada: Animal Husbandry Department has embarked on a campaign to remove misconception triggered by rumours linking chicken to the deadly coronavirus.

Consumption of chicken and egg has considerably come down due to spread of rumours. The spread of scare has pushed the poultry industry into crisis.

Director Animal Husbandry Department, DrM Srinivasa Rao, on Saturday said the deadly viruswould not be spread by consuming chicken or eggs.He appealed to the people not to believe in false rumours spread on social media.

Dr Srinivasa Rao said the rumours spread on the social media were baseless and unscientific and appealed to the people not to believe in these rumours. He made it clear that coronavirus was spread by eating bats and snakes and other animals.

He said the virus would transmit from person to person through sneezing and due to close contact. The poultry sector would be badly affected if people stopped eating eggs and chicken.

The poultry farmers and feed manufacturers would suffer huge loss if the sale of chicken and eggs came down. The eggs and chicken are rich in proteins and can be eaten without any fear, he assured.
