Visakhapatnam: Rains continued to lash Visakhapatnam district on Thursday, throwing life out of gear in the city. Low-lying areas in various parts of the city were submerged with rainwater. Potholes, damaged roads and water stagnation in several neighbourhoods made it a daunting task for commuters to reach their respective destinations.

In areas like Convent Junction, Gnanapuram and Gopalapatnam, among other low-lying areas, residents confined to their homes. With rains creating havoc, traffic snarls were witnessed at several junctions across the city.

While Payakaraopeta recorded 6 cms of rainfall, Narsipatnam registered 5.1 cms. Similarly, Parawada recorded 5 cms of rainfall and Yelamanchili recorded 4.6 cms on Thursday.

Meanwhile Goddess Nukambika temple located on the banks of River Varahi was collapsed and eroded in Somadevipalli near Rayavaram mandal due to heavy floodwaters in the river.
