Number of tigers rise significantly in Madhya Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: Madhya Pradesh is declared as the Tiger State of the country this year. The number of tigers has increased considerably now, said Deepika Roy Choudhury, Deputy Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB), while highlighting various tourist destinations of the State at a programme 'Explore the treasures of Madhya Pradesh' held here on Friday.

MPTB organised a tourism road show which aimed at showcasing the culture and wide range of tourism. "I am overwhelmed by the response of the travel agents and tour operators of Visakhapatnam. This event helps us to achieve our targeted marketing for tourism products," said Deepika Roy Choudhury.

She further adds, "We are hoping that this road show will stimulate the curiosity among the travel agents and tour operators of Visakhapatnam and they in turn will lead their guests to explore and experience Madhya Pradesh in true spirit."

Madhya Pradesh is a beautiful wildlife destination. It is the State with the forest area cover of 77,000 sq km filled with Sal trees and bamboos. It has numerous wildlife hotspots with 11 national parks and 24 wildlife sanctuaries, she mentioned.

Besides, the State has also regained the tag of being 'The tiger State of the country' by having maximum number of tigers. Talking about the increased numbers of the big cats, Deepika adds, "Madhya Pradesh is declared as Tiger State of the country after the forest authority took conservation methods to increase the population of the big cats.

Currently, the State is having 2,967 tigers according to the Census." Gwalior and Mandu are some of the beautiful architectural sites, whereas Panchmarhi and Khajuraho are most preferred destination, according to the event organisers. The MPTB plans out special packages for tourists such as 'Satpura cycle safari', 'Adventure activities at River Narmada' and 'Panchmari Monsoon Marathon'
