NYAY will be game changer, hopes Koppula Raju

Vijayawada: NYAY, the brainchild of AICC president Rahul Gandhi will be the game changer in Indian polity, said former IAS officer and senior Congress leader Koppula Raju while addressing the media at Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Saturday.

Recalling that former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi introduced a number of schemes for the poor in the past, the Congress leader said that generally people remember Congress party whenever they hear the slogan Eradication of Poverty.He said that land ceiling, nationalisation of banks, Garibi Hathao, employment guarantee scheme, Food Security Act and others were introduced by the Congress party.

The Modi administration was compelled by Rahul Gandhi to withdraw the ordinance amending the provisions in the land ceiling act which were detrimental to the interests of people, he said.

The former IAS officer said that the poor secured rights on land due to the recommendations of the Koneru Ranga Rao committee.

Elaborating on the Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY), (the minimum income guarantee scheme), the brain child of Rahul Gandhi, will be game changer that would give minimum income to around 5 crore poor families or 25 crore individuals, the AICC general secretary said adding that the money would be directly deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, who will get Rs 72,000 per annum and Rs 3.6 lakh in five years under the scheme.Former Union minister MM Pallam Raju, APCC general secretary Dr Gangadhar, Korivi Vinay Kumar, Usha Rani and others were present.
