Officials brace up for cyclone Fani alert in Srikakulam
Srikakulam: The revenue, police, irrigation, agriculture and other related departments officials have been put on alert in the wake of severe cyclonic storm Fani.
Collector J Nivas reviewed the preparations with officials on Monday as per the warning issued by the IMD over cyclone. Under the impact of cyclone, the district is likely to receive heavy rains accompanied with strong gales on May 1.
Nivas directed the officials to propagate cyclone impact in all villages across the district and suggested the farmers to take all steps to protect their farm products. He also asked the engineering officials to inspect cyclone shelter buildings along the coastal area to shift people from low-lying areas, to safer places if necessary.
He also directed the education wing officials to convert school buildings in all villages as cyclone shelters and make necessary arrangements in this regard. He also reviewed over availability of rice and other essential commodities in the district.
He asked the irrigation officials to maintain close vigil at Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers due to heavy rains predicted in adjacent Odisha state.
