Ongole: 11 arrested in raids on illicit liquor units

Ongole: The Prohibition & Excise Enforcement department officials in the Prakasam district conducted cluster raids at various places in the district following the instructions of the Director of Prohibition & Excise, on Wednesday.

The Assistant Commissioner of Enforcement in Prakasam district, Y Srinivas Chowdary explained that they have formed 18 teams, comprising of one state task force team from Vijayawada, two enforcement teams, two ESTF teams from Ongole and Markapuram, 14 teams of SHOs conducted raids in 46 villages coming under the Ongole, Chirala, Addanki, Chimakurthy, Markapuram, Kandukuru, Singarayakonda, Cumbum, Yerragondapalem and Giddalur stations on Wednesday.

In the raids, they seized 90 liters of illicitly distilled liquor, 150 kg of block jaggery, 52 kg of alum, 16 kg of ammonium chloride, 20 kg of black ink nut and destroyed 6900 liters of fermented jaggery wash. They also seized a car and 36 nibs of Indian manufactured liquor at Singarayakonda bus station.

Srinivas Chowdary informed that they booked 10 cases all over the district and arrested 11 persons in connection with the cases.
