Ongole: Adequate exercise, sleep, good diet help fight male infertility says Dr Yaramareddy Swapna
Ongole: Male infertility is rising, according to a fertility specialist. The fertility issue has to come to fore as the Father's Day will be celebrated on Sunday.
In the interview with The Hans India, Dr Yaramareddy Swapna, a fertility specialist in Ramesh Hospitals group. Pointed out that male infertility is on the rise and men are also equally responsible for infertility.
The sedentary lifestyle, obesity, unhealthy food habits, smoking and alcohol consumption are the major reasons for male infertility. Physical disorders like undescended testis, damage of testis due to infections like mumps, hormone imbalance, etc, also decrease the sperm count.
More couples are career-oriented now and men are planning children at the age of 40 years, but hypertension, diabetes, liver diseases, and varicocele are also decreasing the sperm count, she said.
Dr Swapna said that age 35 years or above, are referred as advanced maternal age, while 40 plus years is an advanced paternal age for men. She said that when the people in these advanced years of age try for children, they may experience miscarriages or the children may have congenital birth defects, chromosomal, genetic or psychological disorders.
She said that the advanced technology, testicular biopsy, they collect sperm from the testicles of men suffering from infertility directly and use them in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and In Vitro fertilization (IVF) methods to help the couple become parents.
The fertility specialist advised the people suffering from infertility to make a habit of exercising for at least 30 minutes, make vegetables, fruits as part of diet by avoiding food with high carbohydrates and sugars like cool drinks, pizzas and white bread etc.
If they are nonvegetarian, she advised them to take eggs and fish more than other meats. She asked the people to try to have a stress-free sleep for eight hours, as it helps in the generation of the hormone, melatonin that helps in the increase of quality of sperm in male and eggs in females.
