Ongole: Prakasam police registered cases against the fraudsters who impersonated as the police personnel from the district and advised the public not to believe in any messages seeking financial help from any officer.

SP Siddharth Kaushal said that it came to his notice that fake Facebook accounts are being opened with the names of the police officers and posting messages to people on Facebook messenger requesting financial help.

He said that they have observed fake accounts in the name of Darsi ASI, Pullalacheruvu SI, Addanki SI, Kandukur Rural SI, and others and the account creators sent messages to people asking for money. The SP said that people should be aware of the fact that no police officer asks people for money under any circumstances and they should not send money.

He announced that cases are registered against the fraudsters and strict legal action will be taken against them.

The SP advised the public that they should not disclose any OTPs coming to their phone numbers, ATM card numbers, OTP numbers of Google Pay, PhonePe, etc to anyone. He said that the police officers, bank officials or other officials never ask for the OTP numbers and people should be wary of online frauds. He asked the public to lodge a complaint at the nearest police station whenever such fraudulent messages and phone calls are received by them.
