Ongole: Police bust burglar gang, booty worth 27 lakh recovered
Ongole: Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal on Wednesday announced the arrest of a four-member interstate gang and recovery of gold ornaments and silver articls, besides cash worth of Rs 27,66,500 from them.
At a press conference held in the district police office, the SP said the Chirala police had registered a housebreaking case last month in which Rs 30 lakh worth of gold ornaments, silver articles ornaments and cash were stolen.
At the same time, the police had learnt that an attempt of theft was also made in the neighbouring house.
The Chirala DSP Y Jayarama Subbareddy formed a special team lead by the Inkollu Circle Inspector R Rambabu to arrest the culprits.
Based on available clues and visuals on CC TV footage, the police identified two persons, Kunchala Nagaraju of Pedakakani and Chembeti Nagaraju of Bapatla and launched manhunt for them. Kunchala Nagaraju is a habitual offender for the last 20 years, he said.
He had a history of escaping from the police custody and serving jail terms in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana State and Tamil Nadu.
