Ongole: Poverty should not be an obstacle for education: Adimulapu Suresh
Ongole: Education Minister Dr Adimulapu Suresh announced that poverty should not be an obstacle for poor students in the state as the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is bringing many revolutionary reforms in the education sector.
Launching the Jagananna Vasathi Deevena at ZP High School in Yerragondapalem on Monday, the Minister said Jagan Mohan Reddy has observed the plight of common people during his padayatra and was giving high priority to education and health sectors. As part of Amma Vodi, he said the government has deposited Rs 6,400 crores into the accounts of mothers of school-going children.
Now, with the Vasathi Deevena scheme, Suresh said that they were spending Rs 2,300 crores for 11 lakh beneficiaries in the state. He said the mothers of ITI students would receive Rs 10,000, polytechnic students Rs 15,000 and degree and above students Rs 20,000 per year in their accounts. Suresh announced the Jagananna Vidya Deevena programme would be launched from March and a kit worth Rs 1,300 would be distributed with a school bag, three pairs of uniforms, tie, and shoes to encourage school-going students. He announced the model degree college in Yerragondapalem would be developed as an ideal degree college.
Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara said 1,400 schools are being developed under the first phase of Nadu-Nedu in the district and added about 70,000 beneficiaries in the district would receive Rs 63 crore in their accounts under Vasathi Deevena. He said that the Arogyasri beneficiaries could get free treatment in corporate hospitals for 1,200 diseases in the district now.
