Ongole: Private teachers, lecturers demand coronavirus allowance

Ongole: The Prakasam district unit of Private Teachers and Lecturers Welfare Association staged a protest by organising a Bhikshatana programme in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday, demanding that the government pay Coronavirus allowance.

The PTLWA district convener, Tandra Ramana explained that about 30 lakh students are being educated in the private schools and colleges in the district. He said that the private schools and colleges are not paying the teachers and lecturers from March and they do not know when the schools will reopen due to the high incidence of Coronavirus cases. He demanded that the government should extend the helping hand to the private teachers and lecturers also and give financial assistance of Rs 10000 per month until the educational institutions reopen in the state.

Teachers Annapurna, Purnima, Mastan Vali, Nagababu, Sambasivarao and others said that the private teachers are in a crisis and that it is not good for society, where the teacher is highly respected. They announced that they would continue the protests in various forms until the government responds to their justifiable demand of releasing Rs 10000 per month as financial assistance.
