Ongole: Savitribai Phule's 190th birth anniversary celebrated

AP BC JAC celebrating the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule in Ongole on Sunday

Ongole: Various political parties and public fronts grandly celebrated the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule in Ongole on Sunday.

The Telugu Desam Party Ongole parliament constituency president Dr Nukasani Balaji and other leaders organised the birth anniversary celebration of Savitribai Phule at the district party office. Balaji said that Savitribai has paved the way for the education of girl child in the country and the society remembers her as the first woman teacher in the country. He said that though nothing is impossible for the women, education helps them achieve more and Savitribai Phule has proved it by working for the education and welfare of the women as the teacher. Kamarajugadda Kusumakumari, Kothari Nageswara Rao, Pasupuleti Sunitha, Podili Srinivasa Rao, Navuri Kumar, and others also participated in the programme.

The Andhra Pradesh BC JAC celebrated Savitribai's birth anniversary in Ongole. The Nayi-Brahmana Corporation director Dharanikota Lakshminarayana said that Savitribai strived for the education of girl children by establishing schools. BC JAC president Tanniru Anjaneyulu advised the women to continue the spirit of Savitribai. Women president Dr Challa Nageswaramma praised Savitribai as the teacher who challenged the social discrimination against the women, Dalits and backward classes. She said that Savitribai also encouraged self-respect through her books and action. BC Welfare Association district president Banka Chiranjeevi, OBC state cell president Gullapalli Veerabhadrachari, Tanniru Koteswara Rao, Abdul Kalam, Tanniru Veerasai, and others also participated in the programme.

The Payback to Society, an NGO organised a seminar on the topic, Women empowerment in Ambedkar way' as part of the celebrations of the Savitribai Phule's birth anniversary and Tella Aruna presided over the event. Garikamukkala Hanumantharao, Dharnasi Chiranjeevi, Dr Nukathoti Ravikumar, former DEO Madhusudan Rao, Nune Ankammarao, Dasari Rupasuma, and others also participated in the programme.
