Rajamahendravaram: Andhra Pradesh State Women's Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma has said that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the government about the sexual harassment incident that took place at Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU).

She interacted with the girl student, Vice-Chancellor Professor P Suresh Varma, Registrar Professor S Teki and enquired about the incident. The victim and PG students explained to the Women's Commission about the harassment they were allegedly subjected to by Assistant Professor N Surya Raghavendra who is the head of English department.

Later, speaking to the media, Padma said the commission will take it as a serious issue and assured stern action against the accused. The punishment to the accused should be a lesson to others.

Because of negligent attitude of In-charge Vice-Chancellor Professor P Suresh Varma, there was a delay before the issue came to light, she said. A system should be developed in all universities in the State to combat sexual abuse immediately.

It is the duty of the Vice-Chancellor to protect girl students studying in the university and also uphold the values of the university but it was not seen in the campus, she added. The Commission will provide necessary protection to the girl students in the university and directed the Vice-Chancellor to take care of them. She said stern action would be taken if any lapses are found.
