Parents thank government doctors for treating birth defects in children (representative image)

Ongole: The parents of children who underwent surgeries for their birth defects met the district medical and health officer Dr P Ratnavali in her chamber on Wednesday and thanked her and her team for recommending their children for the surgeries and the government for making the arrangements for the same.

The DMHO and her team of doctors including KV Koteswara Rao, Dr P Srichand and others conducted a primary screening for the children with birth defects under Rashtriya Bala Swasthya Karyakram on December 7, 2020. Following the reference of the local ANMs and Aanganwadi workers, parents of 28 children participated in the primary screening. The doctors filtered 19 of the children and identified 8 children with cleft lip and palate problems and sent them for surgeries at Ramdev Rao Hospital in Kukatpally, Hyderabad.

The doctors at the hospital conducted the cleft lip surgery for four children and palate surgery for two children on December 12, while postponed the surgeries for the remaining two children due to illness. The doctors said that they would perform the surgeries on the two children in the next camp.

The parents of the six children, who were completely recovered now met the DMHO Ratnavali and other doctors in her chamber and expressed gratitude to her and the government for the life-changing surgeries for their children.
