People urged to protect wildlife: Collector

Kakinada: District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy called upon the people to participate in wildlife protection activities as the animals have to co-exist with human beings to maintain ecological balance.

He said that in Indian culture and tradition, the animals were playing a vital role and the everyone should visit wildlife sanctuaries and protect them for preserving and protecting ecology.

He said that the wildlife sanctuaries were attracting large number of tourists and the people should visit such sanctuaries and enjoy the beautiful natural scenes in the sanctuaries. He stressed the need for protecting wildlife to maintain bio-cycle and its eco-balance.

Presiding over the function, Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy said that many of the animals, birds and others were becoming extinct due to pollution, radiation and other climatic changes.

The District Wildlife Protection Officer Anantha Shankar said that the Korangi Wildlife Sanctuary, Papikondalu, Mangroves and others were having a special attraction in the East Godavari District. He said that as per the national statics, only three tigers are in East Godavari out of 3,000 tigers in the country.

Visakhapatnam Post-master General M Venkateswara Rao said that a special cover has been released by Postal Department on Koringa Wildlife Sanctuary. Muralidhar Reddy, Chandrasekhara Reddy and others unveiled a special cover in the meeting.
