Percussionist Siram passes away
Vijayawada: Siram Subrahmanyam (61), a noted percussionist (mrudangam) and founder secretary for Vijayawada Music Academy and also for Vijayawada Cultural Academy passed away at 5:45 am on Sunday in a private hospital.
Subrahmanyam rendered mrudangam support for many classical music concerts and also for dance ballets like Varudhini Pravarakhyam, Annamacharya, Mahishasura mardhani, Mahakavi Kshetayya, Godadevi, Adi Sankaracharya and many more.
Subrahmanyam was born and brought up in Vijayawada and joined in Music College to learn mrudangam. With his friendly nature and grasping power Subrahmanyam played a key role in organising cultural events in Music College.
He was associated with many more cultural organisations like Sumadhura Kala Niketan, Rasatarangini, Kanakadurga Kala Samithi, Thyagaraja Kala Samithi, NCV Kala Parishad, and Andhra Nataka Kala Samithi. He was also the founder member for Sadguru Sangeetha Sabha to start yearly music concerts in Vijayawada in memory of Sanit Sadguru Thyagarajaswamy.
With his perfect planning events like Thyagaraja Aradhanostavalu, music competitions become successful. He held many honorary posts in Telugu Artistes' Federation, Sadguru Sangeeta Sabha, Sumadhura Kala Niketan and NCV Sangeeta Sabha.
