Plea to restrict Amma Vodi to government school students

Vijayawada: The leaders of Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) staged protest here on Sunday, demanding that the government restrict Amma Vodi programme to the government schools only.

The YSRCP government announced Amma Vodi to increase the school going children in the state and to decrease dropout rate. The PDSU leaders raised slogans to save the government sector schools and to control the corporate and private schools domination in the education sector.

Speaking on the occasion, PDSU secretary U Gani Raju said that the government will give Rs 15,000 for their parents for sending them to the schools. He said that they are welcoming the scheme but the scheme should be restricted to government schools only. He alleged that if the government decision extended to private schools, then there will be no development of the government schools.

PDSU president M Rama Krishna said that about 44,000 government schools in the state were facing several problems and demand that the government develop them instead of encouraging the private sector. He demanded that the government decrease the fee collected by the private and corporate schools.

He said that the government must implement Right to Education Act perfectly in the state.

PDSU state vice-president N Jhansi, city president M Anil, secretary L Sahasa, leaders L Sahith, Sunil, Riaz, Mani Chandra and others were present.
