Polling incident-free in Kurnool, KMC registers lowest turnout

Kurnool: District Collector G Veera Pandiyan on Wednesday said that the polling for 9 urban local bodies was concluded in a peaceful manner without witnessing any untoward incidents. Pandiyan, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli addressed media conference at the Collector's conference hall here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that polling to nine urban local bodies that includes 7 municipalities, Nandyal, Adoni, Yemmiganaur, Dhone, Nandikotkur, Atmakur, Allagadda, Gudur Nagara panchayat and Kurnool Municipal Corporation was held incident-free.

The electorate, despite the prevalence of Covid threat, have showed great enthusiasm and exercised their franchise freely. The election has been conducted for 225 wards in 781 polling centres across the district. A total of 4,82,676 voters out of total 8,58,610 have exercised their franchise in the elections. Of the 4,82,676 voters, 2,38,716 are male, 2,43,913 female and 47 are others.

Gudur Nagara Panchayat has outnumbered with a high voting percentage of 86 while Kurnool Municipal Corporation registered the lowest of 49.33 percentage. The other Municipalities such as Nandikotkur registered 82.62 per cent, Dhone 57.79pc, Adoni 50.05 per cent, stated the collector.

Pandiyan lauded the efforts of officials for ensuring incident-free polling. He said 11 centres have been arranged for counting to be held on March 14.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli said police patrolling is being done during night hours to ensure no-untoward incidents take place. Three-tier police bandobast is being organised for the votes counting on March 14. Even additional police force was also deployed at the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas, stated the SP.
