Polling peaceful in Kurnool

Kurnool: Except stray violent incidents, polling was peaceful in all constituencies in the district. According to information, the district registered around 65 percent of polling. On Thursday, 31.72 lakh voters have exercised their franchise. In the early hours, EVMs malfunctioned due to which polling was delayed. Despite technical glitches in the EVM machines, the voters waited in serpentine queues for long hours to cast their votes.

A Sub-Inspector, a constable Sudhakar Reddy and an independent candidate Rami Reddy suffered injuries when TDP and YSRCP workers pelted stones against each other at Ahobilam in Allagadda Assembly constituency. Both party workers attacked each other with sticks too.

The injured immediately rushed to the Nandyal hospital for treatment. After primary treatment at Nandyal, the constable was again shifted to Kurnool General hospital for better treatment. It is learnt that the constable is in a state of coma.

Allagadda DSP J Tippe Swamy speaking to The Hans India said that it was an unfortunate incident which took place in the morning. "We have dispersed the crowd and brought the situations to control. People have cast their votes without any fear till evening," he stated.

Similar incidents were also reported and Veldurthi mandal. Scuffle broke out between TDP and YSRCP activists at Gorumanpalle in Kolimigundla mandal of Banaganapalle constituency. Workers for both parties sustained injuries.

First-time voters have cast their votes with enthusiasm. As many as 10 transgenders have cast their votes. District Collector S Satyanarayana and SP Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli accompanied with their wives have exercised their franchise.
