Polluting environment causing cancer: Collector Dr. Pola Bhakskara

Ongole: District Collector Dr. Pola Bhakskara has said that polluting the environment was causing cancer to several thousand of people in the world.

He flagged off the World Cancer Day rally organized by the STEP and Youth Services Department and said that by taking early measures, cancer can be prevented at the very initial stage.

The Collector said that humankind was damaging the environment in the name of development. He opined that the change of diet, adulterated and chemicals induced food products, etc were causing cancer to even 30-year-old people, who are habituated to outside food. He said that there were a large number of people suffering from cancer already and asked the people to undergo preliminary checkups.

He revealed that the medical records show that a great number of women from the district are suffering from breast cancer and announced that they are going to conduct screening of all women in self-help groups in the district in April and May months.

The youth services and STEP CEO PV Narayana, DMHO Dr Padmavathi, volunteers from Dhatri NGO, principal of QIS Engineering College Dr P Venkat Rao and their students participated in the rally.
