Pontiffs launch Chaturmasa Deeksha in Tirumala

Tirumala: The Chaturmasa Deeksha of Tirumala Sri Pedda Jiyar Swamy and Sri Chinna Jiyar Swamy commenced on a religious note here on Sunday. On the occasion Sri Pedda Jiyar Swamy stated that as per Hindu tradition, the day on which Lord Maha Vishnu entered into His celestial sleep up to the day on which He wakes up is termed as Chaturmasa and the saintly persons strictly observe Japa, tapa with food restrictions during this period for the benefit of entire mankind.

Sri Chinna Jiyar Swamy said that from the day of Ashada Suddha Ekadasi till Karthika Suddha Ekadasi is considered as Chaturmasa. TTD Special Officer of Tirumala, AV Dharma Reddy said the holy months Aswayuja, Sravana, Bhadrapada and Karthika are categorised as Chaturmasas and the religious persons observe strict traditional habits during this period.

Earlier, Sri Pedda Jiyar along with Sri Chinna Jiyar Swamy started from Pedda Jiyar Mutt in a procession and offered prayers to Swamy Pushkarini and Sri Bhu Varahaswamy temples and then reached Tirumala temple. On his arrival at Mahadwaram, he was given traditional welcome.
