Poor quality works irk vigilance officials in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: With complaints pour in from locals over the poor quality of works in municipality limits, the Vigilance sleuths inspected different works for the last one week.

The officials inspected a drain constructed with Rs 11 lakh to discharge rainwater and to avoid inundation from Palasa RTC complex to Mutyalamma Koneru.

They also inspected another major drain constructed from Baddi Polamma temple to Jagannadha Sagaram with a cost of Rs 19.5 lakh for free flow of rain and drain water.

A small drain also constructed at Kasibugga area with Rs 7 lakh and a gravel road also laid with Rs 1.8 lakh on the outskirts of colony in Ramakrishnamarg of the town.

Regional vigilance officer T Hari Krishna and executive engineer (EE) of vigilance Ch Satyannarayana participated in inspection works. It is learnt that two municipal engineers of Palasa town allegedly colluded with contractors and withdrew bills against rules not following quality norms.

Poor quality of works in drains will cause severe damage in a short span, locals mentioned in their complaint.

"We will report to the government on the poor quality of works soon," said vigilance officials T Harikrishna and Ch Satyannarayana to The Hans India.
