Poor sanitation dents Chittoor image says Collector N Bharat Gupta

Chittoor: District Collector N Bharat Gupta on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the sanitation wing for not cleaning of drainages properly in Chittoor city. He instructed Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh to take effective measures for keeping the city clean and green as per the prescribed norms. It may be recalled that Chittoor city has been declared as 'no plastic zone' with the cooperation of citizens. It is unfortunate that sanitation was deplorable in several divisions of the city.

The Collector and Trainee Collector Prudvitaj besides Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh have visited several divisions for collecting first-hand information on sanitation in the city on Wednesday.

During his visit, the collector observed mosquito menace has turned to be a daunting task and complaints of dengue cases reported in some areas due to the stagnation of rainwater.

Admitting that most drainages in the city are in the worst condition, he made it clear that it was sole responsibility of public health staff to keep the city free from mosquito menace and called upon the public to take equal responsibility along with sanitation personnel to overcome mosquito-borne diseases.

The Collector also interacted with the ward volunteers and secretaries to ascertain the progress of household survey in their respective divisions. Several residents of 11,12 and 18 divisions have complained that there were facing dengue threat due to mosquito bites. They complained that nobody was cleaning the drainages in their colonies since several days. Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh explained the steps being taken by the public health staff to clean the drainages covering all the divisions. He said night sweeping also taken in streets and added the shortage of sanitary staff was one of the reasons for not clearing of garbage. Sanitary inspector Chinnaiah and others were present.
