Power consumption shoots up in EG
Rajamahendravaram: The consumption of power was increasing day by day in the district due to high temperature levels being recorded for the last two weeks. During this month the average daily electricity consumption was 15.75 million units as against of 11.32 million units in the month of January 2019.
Meanwhile many transformers are exploding due to high temperature and frequent power cut mainly in rural areas posing problem to the people. According to an official of Transco, the district was having as many as 17,18,650 power connections. Of the total, residential connections are 14,68,99, commercial connections 1,57,064, industrial connections 6,054, local body connections 30,004, agriculture and aqua connections 55,544 and high tension connections are 1,034.
In the month of January the average consumption was 11.32 million units, in February month 12.86 million units, in March 14.44 million units and in April 14 million units. Due to increasing electricity consumption the load on the respective transformer are also escalating, the sources added.
