Power cut reduced to one hour as coal supply improves in Guntur

Guntur: Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (SPDCL) reduced power cuts in rural areas from four hours to one hour and in some areas emergency load relief to 20 minutes due to improvement in thermal power generation thanks to improvement in coal supply.

Now the officials are imposing power cuts only depending on the situation. Currently, the thermal power stations in the state are getting coal from Singareni Collieries in Telangana and Mahanadi Coal fields in Odisha. As the coal supply has improved, power generation is also gradually improving, leading to reduction of power cuts in villages.

According to officials sources, power supply is expected to improve further in the next two days and there may not be need for cuts in rural areas. Power cuts in the name of emergency load relief began on September 18 starting with one hour a day.

Later, they were increased to four hours but have come down to one hour now. Sources said the government is ready to purchase power if necessary to overcome the short supply.

SPDCL CRDA superintendent engineer A.SrinivasaMurty said " On Thursday we emergency load relief is twenty minutes to one hour. We are expecting power supply will improve further. There is no need for emergency load relief after two or three days."
