Prakasam police dispose of 436 firearms

Ongole: The Prakasam district police have disposed of the obsolete and confiscated firearms and ammunition by a road roller in the district police office on Friday. The Guntur range IG, J Prabhakar Rao, district SP Siddharth Kaushal, Ongole RDO M Prabhakar Reddy supervised the disposal process.

After the disposal, Prabhakar Rao said that they destroyed 436 firearms that were seized and confiscated in various cases in the district from 1963 to 2010. He said that that the disposed arms include 288 SBBL guns, 45 SBML guns, 49 DBBL guns, 6 DBML guns, 9 small hand pistols, and 39 other locally made guns. The IG informed that the disposal process is complete in the presence of revenue officers as per the guidelines by crushing under a road roller and buried in a pit.

Later, the IG held a review meeting on the COVID situation in the SP chamber with all sub-divisional officers as there is a surge in the positive cases in the district. He also enquired about the wellbeing of the Corona infected police personnel and suggested a few precautionary measures to the sub-divisional officers. The IG also appreciated the SP for framing effective safety rules and precautions with Dasasutras.

The additional SP, B Sarath Babu, Markapur OSD K Chowdeswari, DTC DSP G Ramakrishna, AR DSP K Raghavendra Rao, all sub-divisional DSPs, and other officers also participated in the meeting.
