PwDs voting percentage stood at 70.47 in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam: Voting percentage in recent elections among persons with disability (PwD) was reported as 70.47 in Srikakulam district. District Collector J Nivas and Joint Collector KVN Chakradhara Babu made all efforts to improve poll percentage among PwD voters with the assistance of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Disabled Welfare department officials and staff.

They made arrangements like free transport through auto-rickshaws, wheel chairs and ramps at polling stations so that persons with disability can cast their vote without problems. All these efforts yielded good result which was reflected in the increase of polling percentage.

Total PWD voters are 29,116 of them 20,518 voters cast their vote across the district at all 2,908 polling stations on April 11 and voting percentage was reported as 70.47.

Highest voting percentage was reported in Etcherla segment as 92.17 where total PwD voters are 3,306, of them 3,047 voters cast their votes. Minister for Energy and TDP state president K Kala Venkata Rao contested from Etcherla Assembly constituency.

Second highest voting percentage among disabled persons was reported as 81.26 in Amudalavalasa segment where total PwD voters are 3,164, of them 2,571 voters exercised their votes. In Rajam segment also poll percentage among PwD voters was recorded as 80.29, here total PwD voters are 2,344 of them 1,882 voters cast their vote in recent elections.

``We have made arrangements to bring disabled persons to their polling stations and gave publicity and also created awareness among PwD voters as they are also part of our democracy and having right to elect their representatives which works positively,'' Collector KVN Chakradhara Babu said to The Hans India.
