Rajamahendravaram: All precautions in place at Central prison on coronavirus

Rajamahendravaram: As per the directions of the State government, central prison authorities took several precautionary measures in the prison following the outbreak of coronavirus.

According to prisons superintendent S Raja Rao, as many as 3,000 masks were given to 1,500 prisoners in the jail and they also kept available hand wash liquids, soaps and sanitisers etc.

Meanwhile, two drums of water and soaps were kept at the main gate of the prison for those entering the jail and thermal scanners are also in use to record the temperature of the jail inmates. After cleaning their hands they will be allowed into the prison as a pre-cautionary measure. The entire jail premises was cleaned up along with the rooms. The prisoners were asked to maintain personal hygiene which is also important to avoid the virus. The jail doctors were also directed to examine the health condition of the prisoners from time to time.

The kitchen was also cleaned and officials concerned have been directed to maintain cleanliness. Meanwhile, the staff working in the jail were also given masks and they were not being allowed to attend duty without wearing masks.

Police officials coming to the jail on' official work should also wear the masks.

Necessary arrangements have been made to shift the jail inmates to government headquarters hospital if necessary, he said. The Central prison which has bagged the first place in implementing jail reforms is also in forefront in taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the superintendent said.
