Rajamahendravaram: All set for export of Suvarnarekha mango to South Korea
Rajamahendravaram: Traders are all set to export Suvarnarekha variety of mangoes to South Korea with lockdown curbs being eased now. The variety has a great demand in South Korea.
Suvarnarekha is a popular variety and is exported to South Korea from East Godavari. Transaction of business came to a halt due to lockdown in the wake of outbreak of coronavirus. It is expected that between 300 and 400 metric tonnes of fruits will be exported this year as against just 100 metric tonnes last year.
Suvarnarekha mango is a very attractive, evergreen tropical fruit. The juicy ripe mango fruit has a rich tropical aroma and flavour. It is cultivated in Tondangi, Tuni, Kotanandur, Bendapudi, Ravikampdu and PE Chinnayyapalem mandals in the district.
The variety is used for preparation of pickle too. The export variety will be sent to Nuzvid and from there it will be exported after packing;
Apart from it, over 1,000 metric tonnes of Cherukurasam variety will also be exported. The mangoes will be exported to USA, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Musket and Japan and other places.
According an official of Horticulture Department, mango crop is cultivated in 10,000 hectares. There are 8,000 mango growers district. The annual mango production is pegged at 40,000 metric tonnes.
