Government releases 122 crore for irrigation project in Agency area

Rajamahendravaram: The Water Resources Department has taken steps to complete the three irrigation projects in the Agency area in the district with the government sanctioning Rs 122 crore.

Out of total funds sanctioned, as much as Rs 22 crore for Musurumilli project, Rs 1 crore for Bhupathipalem project and Rs 98 crore for Surampalem project. All the

three projects were sanctioned when Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister. Neither former Chief Ministers N Kiran Kumar Reddy nor Nara Chandrababu Naidu evinced any interest on the projects.

The project was aimed to bring 22,000 acres under cultivation in 2005 itself. But important works, such as head works, installation of seven gates and earth works were not completed. However, the 32-km long canal work was dug.

The government also sanctioned Rs 1 crore maintenance of Bhupathipalem project. With the TDP regime not sanctioning funds for maintenance, even small repairs could not be carried out.

YSR laid foundation for the project in 2004 and Kiran Kumar Reddy inaugurated the project. The project was aimed to supply water to 11,000 acres. As much Rs 98 lakh was sanctioned to complete Suramplem project. The project was aimed to supply water to 15,200 acres and the project. It was also sanctioned Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister.

According to an official, the government also sanctioned funds for lift irrigation schemes in the upland area. As much as Rs 26 crore was released for Pushakara Lift Irrigation scheme and Rs 15crore for Venkatanagaram Lift Irrigation scheme
