Update: 2020-02-04 01:41 IST

Rajamahendravaram: Proposal to establish Konaseema Urban Development Authority has been shelved. Now, Konaseema region has been included in Godavari Urban Development Authority (GUDA).

The government has brought Amalapuram, Mummidivaram and Mandapeta Municipalities along with 122 villages of Amalapuram Parliamentary Constituency under the purview of GUDA recently. As many as 55 square kilometres of the three municipalities and 770 kilometres of 122 villages came under purview of the GUDA.

Former Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu announced during the TDP government that Konaseema Urban Development Authority (KUDA) with Amalapuram as headquarters would be established.

The State government now shelved the proposal. The State government's decision came like a bolt from the blue to aspirants for the post of chairman of KUDA. Those, who lobbied for the post of KUDA chairman, were disappointed.

The government issued an order increasing the purview of GUDA to 4,397 square kilometres from the existing 2,750 square kilometres.
