Reduce number of curriculum days for schools to 120: Prof. Nimma Venkata Rao
Amaravati: As the Coronavirus pandemic has been hampering the education system, an expert in education suggested the government to conduct three days classes in a week to the school students.
Prof. Nimma Venkata Rao, former Dean, Faculty of Education at Andhra University, speaking to The Hans India observed that running the schools during the pandemic would not be similar on the lines of opening a shopping mall, though following the guidelines and protocols. Taking the existing logistics into consideration, the AP government could evolve a strategy to limit the spread of the virus in the schools, he observed.
He said that the Village Secretariats can be converted into digital learning centres by establishing video call facilities. To ensure sufficient numbers of teachers at all the villages, the government must consider mandalas a unit during the transfers that have been initiated already. The teachers in the villages will help the students in understanding digital learning.
He suggested the government supply the groceries to the parents instead of preparing cooked food as part of the Midday Meal at school. The present curriculum days must be brought down to 120 from present 220. He further observed that the 120 Institutional days must be divided as 60 days at school and 60 days attached to village secretariats.
