Release water to KC Canal, SRBC & other ayacuts: RSSS
Nandyal: The Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samithi (RSS) vice-presidents YN Reddy and Yeruva Ramachandra Reddy demanded the government to immediately release water to KC Canal, SRBC, Hundri Neeva, Galeri Nagari and Telugu Ganga ayacuts. With regard to the demand, the vice-presidents along with the farmers submitted a representation to District Revenue Officer (DRO) Pullaiah in Nandyal on Tuesday. They also met KC Canal Executive Engineer (EE) Tirumaleshwar Reddy on the same issue.
Later speaking to the media, the vice-presidents said that farmers of the ayacuts concerned are facing problems for irrigating the lands due to non-availability of irrigation water. Expressing doubts over water availability in Srisailam dam, they suggested to start generating power after water levels exceeds 875 feet in the dam. The officials, instead of giving priority to power generation, should release water for drinking and irrigation water needs, they noted.
The Samithi leaders said that according to an Act 264 TMC ft Krishna water was allocated to Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut, which is to be used for power generation from Srisailam dam. But due to the violation of this, farmers of KC Canal, SRBC, Telugu Ganga, Handri Neeva and Galeri Nagari ayacuts are facing huge water problems.
The Samithi leaders urged the government to take up restoration works of Alaganuru and Gorukallu reservoirs. They also suggested the leaders of Rayalaseema region to exert pressures on the government to stop power generating from the left bank of Telangana State. If Gundrevula and Siddeswaram Alugu projects were completed, then there will be some chances of mitigating drought situations in this region, they observed.
