Religious fervour marks Rathotsavam at Srikalahasti

Tirupati: A huge gathering of devotees turned up to witness the colourful Rathotsavam, one of the most auspicious and important religious celebrations of the annual Brahmotsavams of Srikalahastiswara Swamy temple at Srikalahasthi, 40 km from here on Saturday.

Following the age-old temple tradition, Lord Siva along with Gangadevi in one Ratham and Goddess Gananprasunamba, in another one were taken in a colourful procession in the Mada streets in the city enthralling a huge gathering of devotees who turned up to witness the religious celebration.

Every inch of the four Mada streets was occupied by the devotees who came from various places including from various districts in the State and also neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to participate in Rathotsavam which took off at the anointed auspicious 10.30 am in the morning and came to an end at about 3 in the afternoon.

The town known as Dakshina Kasi wore a festive look with colourful decorations and illumination giving a festive touch to the famous Saivite holy place.

The elaborate arrangements by the temple administration and police saw the nearly five hours Rathotsavam pass of smoothly despite a huge rush of devotees turning up to witness the Rathotsavam.

The Brahmotsavams of Sri Kalahasthiswara Swamy temple which took off with Ankurarpanam on February 16 would come to end with Pallaki Seva on February 28.

Another important event, Tirukalyanam (celestial) wedding of Siva and Parvathi would be held in the early morning on Monday.
