Resolve water crisis, civic chiefs told

Tirupati: Addressing the municipal commissioners of the Rayalaseema region, K Kanna Babu, Director of Municipal Administration, has instructed them to take measures for resolving the drinking water scarcity in their respective civic bodies. He participated in a day-long review meeting held at the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Senate Hall here on Saturday.

Kanna Babu directed civic chiefs to go for morning rounds in their municipal divisions to know the ground reality of water supply and maintenance of sanitation. Especially, he laid emphasis on water scarcity in municipalities in the ongoing summer. The official asked commissioners to engage private tankers for supplying water. On the occasion, he also enquired with officials about various steps being taken by them to mitigate the impact of searing heatwave in municipalities.

Later, Kanna Babu reviewed the implementation of solid waste management. He expressed unhappiness over civic bodies for not reaching cent per cent in collection of segregated dry and wet waste from every household. The official instructed civic chiefs to serve notices to building owners for collection of property tax.

Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) brought to the notice of Kanna Babu property tax collection has touched Rs 7 crore mark in April 2019. The meeting also discussed digital door numbers, functioning of e-office and other issues.

Additional Director of Municipal Administration P Asha Jyothi, MCT in-charge Commissioner MVD Phani Ram, commissioners from the Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Chittoor districts were present.
