Robotic surgery helps in lessening pain, fast recovery in MGCHRI

Visakhapatnam: In a move to continue its earnest efforts to bring state-of-the-art technology and advanced treatment methods to treat complex cancers close to the needy people, Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (MGCHRI) has introduced robotics surgery technology in the name of 'Sunrise Institute of Robotics Surgery'.

In this context, the hospital is organising a two-day State-level conference and 'live' workshop on robotics surgery ('MGOMCOCON-2019), involving experts from different parts of the country in the field of surgical oncology and robotics surgery.

"So far, we have performed 100-plus robotics surgeries with complete minimal invasion and fast recovery of the patients through the facility, the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, launched in Visakhapatnam two years back," said V Murali Krishna, managing director and surgical oncologist of MGCHRI.

According to Murali Krishna, advanced robotics technology takes surgery beyond human limitations through enhanced 3-D, high definition vision of operative field with up to 10x magnification, superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy and to reach deepest parts of surgical location to perform complex surgeries with ease.

"Robotic surgery can be performed for all the FDA approved procedures in oncology, urology, gastrointestinal surgery, gynaecology, bariatric surgery and cardio-thoracic surgeries, among a plenty with minimal invasion," stated Dr Murali Krishna.

Further, he said the patients who undergoes the surgery would benefit in terms of fast recovery, less bleeding and less pain and can return to normal activities in a short span of time. The two-day conference and workshop aim to share the expertise in the field of robotic surgery and disseminate knowledge on the advanced technology to treat patients.

The workshop that also includes a mobile van with Da Vinci X robotic surgical system will continue on Sunday till afternoon at Four Points By Sheraton.
