Vijayawada: The APSRTC management and the employees are at loggerheads on the proposal of Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Corporation Madireddy Pratap to operate private buses on 10 busy routes in Visakhapatnam.

Interacting with the media recently, Reddy had said that RTC buses being operated in Vizag city are not sufficient to cater to the needs of the growing number of passengers and ever-expanding city. He said that a large number of RTC passengers were travelling standing in the buses in and around Vizag every day. Seeing the plight of the passengers, Reddy had said he got the idea of utilising the services of school buses belonging to private educational institutions. He said these buses remain idle for more than 10 hours a day. Pratap said the educational institutions operate buses during morning and evening hours only. Hence during the remaining period, they can be used as pubic transport carriers along with RTC buses so that the frequency of services can be more and passengers can travel with more comfort.
