Sarus cranes released into enclosures at zoo
Visakhapatnam: The newly received Sarus Cranes by Indira Gandhi Zoological Park from Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru, were released in the enclosure of the city zoo here on Tuesday for the visitors. According to a release from the Zoo Park officials, the two cranes were received as part of animal exchange programme and after completion of the quarantine period, both the birds were released into the open enclosure.
Sarus Cranes are a new addition to the animal collection at Zoo Park. The Sarus Cranes are unique flying birds and with a height of 1.8 mtrs. The both birds are distinguished by the overall grey colour and the contrasting red head and upper neck. They feed on roots, tubers, insects and crustaceans
