SC sends notices to Central Government and Election Commission regarding Opposition Partys' petition

A team of 21 opposition party leaders led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu have sent a petition to the government to ensure that at least 50 percent of votes be counted in Voter Verifiable Paper Audit The (VVPAT) along with the votes polled in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).

This came after the Opposition parties raised doubts about the credibility of EVMs, though the EC has consistently denied allegations that the machines can be tampered with.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Central Government and Election Commission should revert by March 25 addressing the petition.
