Students up to Intermediate will not attain the age of 18 and cannot get driving licence. Without having maturity of mind and awareness on road safety, they run the vehicles very rash scaring others on the roads.

According to RTA officials, of the total accidents two wheelers alone accounts for 45 per cent while all other vehicles together constitute the remaining 55 per cent. There are 3.85 lakh two wheelers registered in Tirupati region itself.

During a special drive organised recently in Chittoor district, hundreds of minors were booked while driving vehicles. The road safety committee issued orders banning use of vehicles by Class X and Intermediate students of all government and private colleges.

This decision has to be implemented by the coordinated efforts of police, transport department and school managements. They have to conduct awareness meetings in educational institutions to educate both students and their parents on the problems of giving two wheelers to minors.

Speaking to The Hans India Tirupati RTO G Vivekananda Reddy said that efforts will be put to bring pressure from all sides so that without a driving licence one should not come on to the road with a vehicle.

In fact, the RTA officials have started going to educational institutions and conduct melas there to see that every student should possess licence.
