Setting up of High Court in Kurnool is in the domain of AP Government: Ravi Sankar Prasad
Amaravati: Reacting on the protest of the lawyers of Kurnool Bar Association demanding for setting up of a High Court in Kurnool, in the Rayalaseema, Ravi Sankar Prasad, Minister for Law and Justice, Union Government explained that the matter of setting up and running of the High Court is under the domain of State government.
He gave a written reply to a question raised by the YSRCP Lok Sabha member Adala Prabhakar Reddy, representing from Nellore Parliamentary constituency, on Wednesday.
Ravi Sankar Prasad explained that, Article 214 of the Constitution provides that there shall be a High Court for each State.
In pursuance of Article 214 of the Constitution and order dated 29.10.2018 issued by the Supreme Court in the matter of Union of India Vs. T. Dhangopal Rao and ors [SLP (Civil) Dy. No. 29890 of 2018], a separate High Court for the State of Andhra Pradesh namely High Court of Andhra Pradesh with principal seat at Amravati has been established. This arrangement was made under AP Reorganisation Act 2014, with effect from 01.01.2019 in consultation with State Government of AP and the then High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and AP. The matter of setting up and running of High Court is under the domain of State Government, he explained.
