Kadapa: Several municipalities such as Badvel, Proddatur, Mydukuru, Rajampet, Pulivendula and Rayachoti do not have adequate drinking water supply. These towns have been listed as the problematic by the state government and no action has been taken till date to solve drinking water problem.

Kadapa city is reeling under acute drinking water shortage and the residents of Kalinganagar, Saipet, Kummarikunta and Masapet are facing hardships to get water. Especially in slums, women are seen sitting near the public taps along with their kids under hot sun to get water.

A Krishnaveni of Mariapuram said to The Hans India that the situation is so bad that people find difficult to take bath even for alternative days. We are paying water taxes regularly, but find hard to have drinking water properly, she said.

It is learnt that Kadapa Civic body releases water once in two days as the people store it in sumps and containers, and water is being supplied to outskirts of the town in view of water scarcity.

According to the sources, 560 villages are facing drinking water problem across the district. At present officials are supplying water through the tankers. But it is not adequate to meet the demand and people are forced to depend on agriculture bore Wells.

"We are not able to get water from borewells because ground water levels have drastically come down,'' said M. Rama Subba Reddy of Nagulakatta village of Mydukuru mandal. Rural Water Supply Superintendent Engineer Sanjeeva Rao told Hans India that they are taking necessary steps to over come drinking water problem by supplying through tankers to villages.
