Simultaneous elections for all local bodies likely in AP, decision awaited
If the reports are to be believed, that the high-level meeting held by Election commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Thursday has discussed on the possibility of holding elections for Sarpanch, MPTC, ZPTC and municipality at a single stretch. The meeting was attended by Panchayati Raj and police officials. The Panchayat and municipal officials are said to be presented the government's proposal to hold simultaneous elections for MPTC and ZPTC on March 21, Municipalities on March 24 and Grama Panchayats on March 27th respectively before election commissioner.
Officials have told the Election Commissioner that this is the only alternative way to complete the election process by the end of this month. They have brought to the notice of SEC about the completion of elections by end of the month would help to fetch funds recommended by 14th Finance Committee under municipal and Panchayat act.
The election commissioner has said that he would come up with a decision after consulting with officials. It has been revealed that commissioner would write to the Chief Secretary on behalf of the Election Commission on matters relating to police and other personnel required for polling.
The officials have reportedly told the commissioner they would finalise the report on reservations and submit it by today end of the day.
