Singapore, AP to work together for mutual benefit

Amaravati: Singapore High Commissioner to India Lim Thuan Kuan had a separate meeting with Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the ongoing partnership between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of Singapore, on the sidelines of the "Diplomatic Outreach" event on Economic and Investment Opportunities in the State on Friday at Vijayawada. Lim was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Noting the long relationship between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh, Lim informed the Chief Minister on the collaboration Singapore had with the State, in areas such as Urban Planning and Development, Waste and Water Management, Power, Building and Construction, Public Healthcare, and Public Libraries, under a Memorandum of Understanding, which was endorsed by the Government of India.

Officials and experts from Andhra Pradesh and Singapore have also worked closely to develop the priority economic sectors of aquaculture, construction, urban solutions, logistics and connectivity, tourism, and Smart City Projects.

Lim also informed the Chief Minister that Singapore companies' investments in AP exceeded Rs 20,000 crore, creating a substantial number of jobs across the State. Singapore has also actively promoted AP as a promising investment destination at various international platforms.

The Chief Minister and Lim exchanged views in areas such as education, skill development, and the tourism potential of the State. The Chief Minister explained the challenges and the steps his administration was taking to improve literacy in the State, and to collaborate with industries to improve the skill levels of AP workforce. The meeting ended with both sides agreeing that Singapore and the government of AP will continue to explore further opportunities to collaborate for mutual benefit.
