Vijayawada: CPM politburo member B V Raghavulu on Wednesday held the State government responsible for sand scarcity and demanded that the government solve the problem as early as possible.

Raghavulu along with the CPM State leaders Ch Baburao and V Umamaheswara Rao spoke to the construction workers at the Benz circle on Wednesday and enquired about their problems.

Later, speaking to the media Raghavulu said lakhs of construction workers were suffering in the State due to non-availability of sand for the last five months. He said the previous government was dependent on liquor for the revenue and the present government seems to be dependent on the sand for revenue.

He said the revenue of the government would increase if the construction activity increases and workers get a livelihood. He wondered why the State had to face sand scarcity.

He said the price of a tractor of sand increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 7,000 and truck price increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000. He demanded that the government sanction financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each construction worker for its failure to solve the sand problem.
