Somasila north canal works to be completed on time: Mekapati Goutham Reddy

Nellore: Minister for IT, Industries and Skill Development Mekapati Goutham Reddy informed that 10,000 jobs would be generated for the unemployed in the Atmakur segment in the coming days. He, along with the District Collector K V N Chakradhar Babu, visited Atmakur town and handed over land pattas to the beneficiaries at a public meeting on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Goutham Reddy said they were going to avert the migration of people from the upland areas to some other parts of state for employment opportunities. He also said they had allocated 9,522 house sites in 169 layouts in the Atmakur segment.

The Minister said they have been distributing 1,050 house site pattas to the eligible beneficiaries in Atmakur municipal limits. The state government would support the beneficiaries for the construction of houses in three different procedures. He said they would ensure water supply for irrigation and drinking in the segment. Phase-I works of Somasila high-level canal with a cost of Rs 853 crore and phase-II works with a cost of Rs 648 crore would be taken up. "Extension works of Somasila north canal have started with Rs 632 crore. The irrigation project works are going on a fast pace and measures would be taken to complete them on time," said Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy.

Further, the Minister inaugurated the ICDS building in the town. Goutham Reddy, along with Collector Chakradhar Babu laid the foundation stone for the three-building complexes at the District Headquarters Hospital with an estimated cost of Rs 3.16 crore. He unveiled the pylon marking the construction of the water scheme aimed at providing water tap connections to each household at a cost of Rs 17.41 crore. Joint Collector Dr N Prabhakar Reddy, Atmakur RDO G Suvarnamma and others were present.
