South Central Railway makes efforts for greener environment at railway stations
Tirupati: South Central Railway (SCR) has been implementing various green initiatives, which are yielding fruitful results. Already they have bagged several awards from Confederation of Indian Industry and Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC). After Tirupati station was awarded Gold Rating recently, the latest addition to the list was Guntakal Divisional Railway Office with Platinum rating.
Guntakal Divisional Railway Manager Vijay Prathap Singh, along with his team of officials, laid special focus in achieving the green targets which were well recognised by CII-IGBC and secured "Green-Co Platinum Rating" for its office building which is the final rating.
While giving ratings they take into consideration five environmental categories like site and facility management, water efficiency, energy efficiency and health, hygiene and sanitation and smart and green initiatives.
The green initiatives took off in 2017 by SCR with the active involvement of then General Manager and present Chairman of Railway Board Vinod Kumar Yadav who drew a blue print to implement every possible avenue. They were being successfully carry forward by the present GM Gajanan Mallya.
Guntakal office building was the second in SCR to receive the highest platinum rating certification after Rail Vikas Bhavan, Guntur Division while Rail Nilayam in SCR, Hyderabad divisional office building and Supervisors Training Centre, Secunderabad have settled with gold rating.
Tirupati station along with Kacheguda and Vijayawada secured gold ratings while Secunderabad station got platinum rating. The Carriage Repair Shop, Tirupati was also certified with gold rating while Carriage Workshop at Lallaguda has to settle with silver rating. The zone has bagged some other awards, said the Chief Public Relations Officer of South Central Railway Ch Rakesh.
The gold certification memento was presented by the Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal and SCR GM Gajanan Mallya during their recent visit to Tirupati. It may be recalled that Tirupati station secured 71 points out of total 100 which were nine short from getting platinum ranking.
