South Central Railway takes up drive to check Covid-19

House-keeping staff clean up a waiting room in Secunderabad railway station as part of intensified drive to prevent spread of coronavirus.

Guntur: Following instructions of the South Central Railway (SCR) general manger Gajanan Mallya, the railway officials have taken up precautionary measures to prevent spread of coronavirus like comprehensive cleaning of coaches, including toilets and pantry cars along with proper disinfecting steps with prescribed frequencies.

They are ensuring availability of liquid soaps and water in the toilets of coaches and pantry cars. On board house-keeping staff have been instructed to take up regular and proper cleaning of coach interiors including doors, door latches, taps and door handles which are areas of frequent touch by the passengers.

Full watering of trains is being ensured at stations earmarked for the purpose. Regular and frequent cleaning of station premises, including waiting halls, seating arrangements and grab rails, hand-rests, toilets, water troughs and any other areas which are susceptible to spread of virus.

At Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta and Guntakal, which are designated as clean train stations, cleaning of coaches for the trains passing through is being ensured. All curtains have been removed from AC coaches.

Minimum temperature in AC coaches set at 25 degrees centigrade. Issue of blankets have been stopped in all AC 2 tier and 3 tier coaches with immediate effect.

For passengers travelling in the first AC, blankets with fresh washed covers will be provided on demand.

Some additional bedsheets will be kept for exigencies. To ensure more awareness and cooperation from the passengers, extensive publicity is being undertaken continuously utilizing the print, electronic and social media.
