Anantapur : Superintendent of Police Bhusarapu Sathya Yesu Babu is striving to bring reforms in Police administration. Taking a clue from Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's style of functioning, the SP is trying to free the police from the clutches of political functionaries.

He is doing away with the age-old practice of organising station mamools to meet administrative expenditure of police stations. The SP has taken a decision to end the practice much to the relief of the traders and business community.

The SP recently had taken an MLA's father into custody for engaging in gambling activity. The Chief Minister reportedly did not intervene in the matter raising the morale of the police. The SP adopted a humane approach while effecting transfers of sub-inspectors and head-constables by taking into consideration their genuine problems.

Yesu Babu also gave compassionate appointments to family members of a couple of police and home guards who died due to illness. He also gave clear instructions to inspectors and sub-inspectors not to make police stations a platform for conducting panchayaths of real estate disputes for monetary gains. He sends the grievances of people to the concerned police station.

People are happy with the functioning of the police official. In 2012 a police jeep was involved in a road mishap in Kalyandurg town killing one Venkatesh on the spot and making another person physically handicapped.

The district court ordered for payment of Rs.10 lakhs compensation to the family members of the deceased and the disabled person, but the verdict was not honoured. The family members are urging the SP to ensure that the compensation reached the affected two families.
