Speaker Tammineni Sitaram alleges misuse of funds in irrigation projects at Srikakulam
Srikakulam: Funds were misused during the TDP regime in the district in the name of irrigation projects. Said Assembly (APLA) speaker, Tammineni Sitaram.
At a press conference here on Thursday, he explained that in the name of modernisation of Narayanapuram anicut, as much as Rs 118 crore was sanctioned during the TDP regime, but works on the projects were not launched in a proper way and the funds were misused. Actually, Narayanapuram project was a barrage-cum-anicut, but modernisation works were meant only for anicut and barrage proposals were abandoned, the Speaker regretted. He also found fault with the previous government for the proposed linking of Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers and its designs. The Speaker said all these projects would be revamped totally to provide assured water for cultivation and also to fix ayacut areas. He also warned the then peoples' representatives, officials of actions if irregularities were proved. He also assured farmers in upland areas in the district that construction of lift irrigation schemes would be take up soon to provide assured water for cultivation.
